Yes, there’s a certain irony to it: AI draws heavily on neuroscience and cognitive science. These fields have (largely) moved away from behaviorism, yet here we are: AI behaviorism.

The more dominant influence, however, is instrumentalism. Behaviorism is one form. Much of AI finds black box instrumentalism intoxicating. In this frame, it’s an obvious match.
