I think many share your objections. Whether something is physically possible says nothing about whether we have the knowledge to realize that possibility. And if you compare the products of relatively simple capabilities like prediction with complex capabilities such as scientific discovery (as I do in the remainder of the post), those explanatory gaps look like gaping chasms.
