I agree with your comments about an aspect of the Semantic Web vision, namely linked data. However, this is a considerably narrower view of the original vision.

The focus was more on the opportunities for autonomous agents, which is obviously alive and well in applications such as intelligent assistants.

AI and machine learning are factors of production, creating the knowledge representations (data) that agents require. Rather than a centralized Semantic Web, emerging are distributed, local semantic webs.

Here’s a more comprehensive explanation. The Semantic Web certainly needs a rebranding, but it’s the future we’re living now.
