Hybrid approaches are promising, but there remains a massive gap between prediction and conjectural knowledge. No one yet knows how to bridge this creative gap. Domingos mistakenly claimed, “Machine learning automates discovery.” I wish it was true, but automating creativity in this narrow predictive sense is a far cry from explanatory knowledge.
